Cornish Coldwater Classic Ignites Gwithian Beach with Epic Wavesailing Action

Gwithian Beach, Cornwall – 21st February 2025

The 2025 Cornish Coldwater Classic, a British Wavesailing Association (BWA) Pro Windsurfing Series event, is electrifying Gwithian Beach. After a short postponement, the competition has commenced, showcasing thrilling heats and exceptional displays of skill against a backdrop of impressive waves.

"The conditions have been absolutely firing," exclaimed Duncan Coombs, Head Judge. "This is all-time Gwithian; truly challenging with huge waves, but the pros are absolutely rising to the occasion. The level of riding we're witnessing is phenomenal."

The Cornish Coldwater Classic isn't just about high-octane competition; it's also providing a significant economic boost to the local area. With over 85 entrants and their families visiting for the long weekend, the event is bringing welcome activity to a time of year that is typically quieter for tourism. This influx of visitors supports local businesses and highlights Cornwall's appeal as a year-round destination.

"After a few years between event hosts, we are bringing Cornwall back to the map for windsurfing," said Event Host, Alex Roads. "We hope we can continue to deliver awesome events and bring more windsurfers to the area every year. It's fantastic to see the positive impact this event has on the local economy, particularly during the off-season."

Gwithian Beach, near Hayle, Cornwall, provides a dramatic and demanding stage for the event, with its renowned surf and stunning coastal landscape. The Cornish Coldwater Classic attracts a diverse field of competitors, from seasoned professionals battling for top honours to enthusiastic amateurs pushing their limits.

The competition continues throughout the weekend, featuring further rounds of heats and finals. A skippers meeting and rookies guide to Wavesailing, held yesterday at the St Ives Brewery Tap Room, ensured all competitors were well-prepared. Updates and results will be available throughout the event.
